Ancestry Update

This year, your DFA Board of Directors set up a subscription to Ancestry.ca in order to further research our roots. There have been many exciting discoveries as a result. Here are a few examples:

• Guttorm Midlang was born in 1590 at Vik, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. He married Elsebe Ovri Midlang in 1619 when he was 29 years old and she was 39 years old. Elsebe was born in 1580 [one of our our oldest known ancestors] at Vik, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway. They had six children (all sons) over 25 years. Guttorm died in 1668 in Sogn, Oppland, Norway, having lived 78 years. Elsebe also died in 1668 having lived a long life of 88 years!
  Their children were:
     > Ola Stadheim Midlang (1620- )
     > Ole Gutormsen Midlang (1626-1645) b: Sogn, Oppland
     > Arne Gutormson Midlang (1628- ) b: Sogn, Oppland
     > Knut Gutormson Midlang (1634- ) b: Sogn, Oppland
     > Eirik Gutormson Midlang (1635-1704) b: Vik, Sogn og Fjordane
     > Palne Gutormson Fosse Midlang (1645- ) b: Sogn, Opplandy
  

• The oldest ancestor that we have found so far in Ancestry.ca is:
     Nils Sondre Land (following the line from Mary Gullickson)
     Born: About 1470 at: Flesberg, Buskerud, Norway
     Died: in Norway
        Married to: "Niels"
        Born: 1474 at: Lande, Buskerud, Norway
        Died: in Sweden

Here are some details on our various DFA membership levels:

1. Associate Member

            • Free
            • Eligible to receive family newsletter
            • May have name/phone number/email address
               published on directory (if desired)
            • May submit stories and photos for the website
            • Receives invitation to family reunions and other events
            • Eligible for password to detailed (confidential) family tree

2. Regular Member

            • Dues are $30 per year (payable on your birthday)
            • Includes all benefits of Associate Member, plus:
            • Eligible for dragland.org email address

3. Gold Member

            • Dues are $100 per year (payable on your birthday)
            • Includes all benefits of Regular Member, plus:
            • Entitled to a free "guest" account at Ancestry.ca
            • Eligible to receive annual financial statements
            • Eligible to serve on planning committees
            • Eligible for a seat on the DFA Board of Directors
